Slavoljub Galic - Đani

Slavoljub Galić Đani (born 1954, Kragujevac) has attained his creative maturity following in the footsteps of the best tradition of Serbian goldsmith-craft. His formative years were not only the time when he mastered the craftsmanship and the technological process, but also the time when he came to understand that seeking and exploring new forms of expression is just as much the obligation of the craftsman, as it is of the artist. At the time when he was reaching his creative maturity, led by fate, he ventured a tour through Europe, and there, in the wellknown centres of goldsmithry (Vicenza, Italy), by observation, creative spirit and work, fused the tradition of this ancient craft with his own creative fancy.

His imagination has been realized not only in the magic world of varicoloured precious stones interwoven with gold, but also in the collections in which he has daringly combined gold and precious stones with finely processed pieces of granite, precious wood and horns of wild animals. However, whether he were fashioning jewelry that radiates like a bouquet of varicoloured precious stones, such as can be seen on Russian baroque imperial jewelry, or “taming” materials (till then irreconcilable) by means of some yet unseen forms, \ani has always created jewelry distingushed by its suitability for anthropomorphic form, which makes it comfortable to wear.

His admission to the Serbian Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designer (ULUPUDS) is another testimony of the high quality of his work. So far, he has had several independent and has taken part in several collective exhibitions, in Serbia and Montenegro and abroad: in Kragujevac, Belgrade, Gornji Milanovac, Novi Sad, Vicenza, Paris etc.

He is now living and working in Kragujevac.
